Website Backlinks
-
The big three (Google, Yahoo, and MSN) all use incoming links as an indicator of site relevance for any given keyword search. Google puts the most weight on it, but it plays a part in all three.
Not only does the number of links pointing to your site effect your search engine rankings, but what text those links use, what site’s they are coming from, and what page on your website they point to, all have impacts on how heavily they are related.
Why are the search engines showing a different amount of back links to my site? Good question. They don’t say why they show the back links they do. Use the number of back links as a relative indicator. If you have 10 back links showing up in Google and your competitor has 50, you need more.
